Presley Chweneyagae: “Tsotsi” star on Trial

What have we here?

Is actor Presley Chweneyagae, whose portrayal of a sociopathic hijacker helped to lead the movie Tsotsi to win the 2006 Academy Award for best foreign film, finally living up to the title of the film?

After being arrested yesterday for allegedly driving with a fake Ivorian licence that had been doctored to look like an international driver’s licence, award-winning Presley was released on R2,000 bail.

Dressed in a dark navy suit with a light blue shirt - after all, he got to pick up style tips on the red carpet at the Oscars last year - Presley made an appearance at the Pretoria Magistrate’s court today where the case was postponed until February 27 for disclosure of dockets.

Reports the Sunday Times: “Before granting the postponement Magistrate Bheki Ntshingela asked why the defence needed such a long time to receive documents that could be photocopied in a day.

“The accused would be travelling abroad for work and would only return on February 19, Lowley said, adding that a postponement would be practical.”

Now, Presley, dear, just remember that whilst abroad, to not use that same fake international licence again!

After his brief appearance, Presley said: “I am confident that the law will take its course.”

And we are confident that you need to take a course in how to forge a convincing driver’s licence. We’re sure many of our government officials will be more than happy to assist you in this endeavour.
