Breaking News: Nobel Peace Prize Awarded

Normally we wouldn’t cover this, but since the winner of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize also won an Oscar earlier this year, we feel that it falls into our domain.

Al Gore has just been announced as the winner of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize for his Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth. He will share the prize with the UN’s inter-governmental panel on climate change.
The former Vice President of the United States and, in 2000, President elect of the United States (yet mysterious loser to Bush) has in the past been nicknamed Al Snore, because of his… errm… laid-back disposition.

Although we are rather pleased for him, we can’t really figure out how making a compelling film about drowning polar bears and the other perils of the planet heating up translate to preventing wars. Unless of course the Nobel committee figured that combating extreme heat will make people less hot and bothered and therefore, less trigger happy?
